Over this quarter I have spent a great deal of time working on drawings that are involved in organic shapes and textures. The first is of a woman whom is changing to become part of nature and the natural world that surrounds. It is more about living our lives in a responsible and sustainable manner. The grapes growing in the background speak of renewal while the woman is symbolizing the changes that we can make to have a positive influence on the earth. The birch limbs and their peeling bark also reflect renewal. Like a snake shedding its skin it is reborn each year in paper thin strips. In the spring the world comes back to life and the final piece is about how we see the earth in bits and pieces. It is this diffused and broken view that prevents us from seeing nature as a whole system that works together.
